today we had a garden tea party for the women in our church. we met at the butler's pantry, had some tea party-ish food and heard from some amazing women of God.
of course, the words "tea party" bring to mind certain notions, such as cucumber sandwiches, graceful ladies, and superb manners. the problem is that for all of our trying, kelli and i didn't make it through without hilarious moments.
our meal consisted of chicken and broccoli crepes topped with cheese and cold cucumber soup. i had never had either, so it was fun to try. the soup was served in a glass, and kelli, betty and i joked about drinking the soup rather than eating it with a soup. about a minute later as i reached for my tea, i was shocked when cold cucumber slid down my throat rather than tea. ewwwwwww. cucumber soup is not a good beverage. to make matters worse, i announced it to everyone at my table even though nobody else had seen it. geez.
it was a wonderful time with the ladies in our church and i'm so grateful for angela who put this all together. as i heard woman after woman talk about God's faithfulness through their rough days, my prayer was that i would be a strong christian woman like those of my church family. they were no strangers to feelings of loneliness, depression, hurt and pain, but they allowed God to guide them through. i left with a new respect for these ladies and a new resolve to keep Christ number one in my life.
