apology letter

i have a student who reminds a whole lot of...kelli.

yes, that's true. i can't escape from her!

about a month ago, this girl said something sarcastic to me. it got back to her mom (ok, her mom is my friend), and her mom made her write me an apology letter. i have it here for your entertainment!

dear ms. hernandez,
i am sorry for my attitude toward you. i will try my best not to do it again and i will also do my seatwork neatly. i will be obedient toward you and i will be respectful toward you. i will definitely stop the talking in line and in class. i will also pay attention and i will stop turning around in class. i'll stop talking in the bathroom. i will also listen to what you say.

in case you were wondering, yes-she did talk that much! but ever since i got the letter, she has been golden. her momma made sure of that!

new thing

as it turns out, third graders don't really say as many funny things as first graders do.

they write them.

there are a few things that they've written that just crack me up. i'll post them as they come so you can enjoy them too. =)

(right after i do homework.)

so, how are the kids?

one of the things that i am so grateful for about my childhood was that i grew up with all my cousins. i have so many good memories of all of them.

a game that we all liked to play was "grown-up." cheli, clarissa, and i would sit around a table (kelli was left out quite often), sipping our imaginary tea, and discussing issues we thought adults would discuss. we always started out with the question, "so, how are the kids?" then we would carry on conversations on how our "families" were doing.

flash forward 2o years: my cousin, cheli, got married this week. it hardly seems possible that all of us are even adults now (yes, even kelli!), let alone old enough to get married. but here we are. the first of the cousins have gotten married. and although not all of us live in the same city anymore, i will always carry those sweet, precious memories with me.

congrats to cheli and aaron!!

something to think about

for those of you who don't me (i'm not quite sure who that would be), i have a younger brother named ryan. most think he's quiet and shy. we, his family, know the truth. i've never met a more sarcastic 14 year old. S-A-R-C-A-S-T-I-C.

anyway, in sunday school a couple of weeks ago, he had to write his own obituary. here's what he wrote:

ryan hernandez went to be with the Lord on june 22, 2083. He was 89 years old. a loving man, the 50th president of the united states was arguably the best and most loved president in america's young history. he is survived by his wife, selena gomez hernandez, his three children, piper, track, and willow, his dog palin and his cousins hannah, a supreme court justice, and seth, the world's shortest man. he was preceded in death by his father a former preacher, his mother a music teacher, his sister bethany founder of the world-famous hernandez reading center in san antonio, his other sister kelli who was a missionary to africa, his brother josiah kane who directed the broadway play "floss" and his two dogs rhapsody who had "issues" and roddick. ryan will always be rmembered and wiill never be forgotten. he was arguably the mjost important man of the 21st century.

where to start? there are so many places...

hello old friends

yes, i know-it's been awhile.

no, i have not fallen off the face of the earth.

yes, i'm overwhelmed.

no, the rumors are not true. i will not be joining the circus this year. next year, maybe. but not this year.
