first grade conversations

like i've said, there are many things that i love about 1st graders. i think one of the funniest things about them is their conversations, especially when they don't think anyone is listening. today, i heard a story about two 1st graders next door to my class.

there's one boy who's recently been diagnosed with dyslexia. he was explaining to a classmate about what that means.

boy #1: i can't read that because i have dyslexia.

boy #2: (in a really high, squeaky voice) WHAT?

boy #1: i have dyslexia!

boy #2: SEXLET? YOU HAVE SEXLET?

boy#1: (already fully exasperated) no! dyslexia! i have dyslexia!

boy #2: SEXLET? YOU HAVE SEXLET?

boy #1: IT'S DYSLEXIA!!!

thank goodness at that point they were told to stop talking and keep working, or who knows how long that conversation could have lasted.
