update

first of all, thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers the past few days. everyone has been really sweet and understanding, especially my own students. yesterday one of my girls gave me a "get well soon" card and a king size bag of m&ms. heeellllo.

my eyelashes are still short (i thought maybe miraculously they would grow back in two days. darn.) and my skin is very flaky and dry. my lips are no longer botox-sized, and my nose is healing nicely, if not a little painfully. that's because my nose is peeling, so the skin around it very tight and...well...painful.

i look like rudolph.

excuse me while i go wipe away this excess moisture that seems to be flowing out of my eyes and down my face.

*sniff*

do eyelashes grow back?

oh boy, do i have a story for you.

before i start with that, let me just say that we had a wonderful time celebrating joey's birthday on monday. it's hard to believe that he's already nineteen. i still remember my initial shock when he was born and he looked...um....very white. i still don't know why that is. oh well. i'll post pictures from dinner later.

now back to last night's drama.

last night was the first night that i was going to have free, so i had lots of plans for myself. i was going to clean out my closet, type up the syllabus for our small groups that started tonight (of which i'm obviously not at), and bake biscuits for this morning so that i would have breakfast.

none of that happened.

i had made the dough for the biscuits and was going to start on the rest of the stuff while they were baking. i turned on the oven and bent over to light it, and when i did that the fire flamed up and singed my face.

yes, my face. and my hair. and my right arm.

turns out i don't know how to turn on the oven the right way. i turned away from the flames as fast as i could, but the damage was already done. i have a first degree burn on my arm and my face. even the tip of my right ear is red. i ran my arm under cold water, which already feels better. but what the hurt the most were my lips. i was in excruciating pain; nothing has EVER hurt like that. i wet a washcloth and placed that over my lips, but even that wasn't giving me much relief. my dad talked to my doctor, and he called in some pain medicine for me, which has worked wonders. i'm not in so much pain anymore, but my lips are definitely swollen. that's not such a great thing when you already have big lips. so today i stayed home from school since the pain medicine knocked me out, and my dad took care of my small group for me. i'm so glad that i have people that i can depend on when i'm not feeling 100%.

things could have been so much worse, though. the burns could have been more severe, and if my hair hadn't been in a ponytail, it could have caught on fire and burned my face even more. right now my lips hurt, but i know that the swelling will go down. my face feels like i have a sunburn on it, but that will go away. my eyelashes will grow back (right?) and my hair won't have that singed look anymore. i know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God protected me last night. i am beyond grateful that it wasn't more serious.

no sense

there are times when i really, really miss my old car, scooter. i don't why, especially since the car now i have is nicer and such a blessing. but sometimes i just want my old car back.

am i weird? do i need medication?

oh, that reminds me, i need to take my medicine...

lunch with friends

a very rare thing happened today. two of my friends and i were off of work, so we were able to go out to lunch. it's always fun to do that, and we had a good time talking and laughing about silly stuff. there was even mention of my birthday (which details i'm not allowed to know), so now i'm intrigued!!!!!

i've decided that one of my favorite things is lunch with my friends. i'll take that any day.

how i spent my first day off

in a nutshell: sleep.

that's it. that's all i did. i hadn't been feeling well all week, so when i came home from school, i slept for about an hour. when i woke up, i had to run an errand, but then came home and slept again from 6:30 to 8:30.

6:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.

i'm not kidding. except for a few interruptions (phone call, texts, and the random waking at 1:49 in the morning), i slept straight through. i don't think i've ever done that. the good news is that when i woke up i felt much, much better. my throat still hurt a little, but i think it had more to do with the fact that i slept with my mouth open since i couldn't breathe through my nose.

i even slept the rest of the day. i just dozed off and on and watched t.v. in between. such a lazy day.

this has been such an "off" week for our family and church though. on tuesday we found out that my grandmother has cancer. my mom drove to be with her on wednesday. a family in our church lost their granddaughter on tuesday. dad had to leave on wednesday for san antonio for work, and at the same time help with the funeral plans. and somehow the rest of us are supposed to stay here and keep life as normal as possible.

i think i'll just go back to sleep now.
