haha...that word makes me laugh.
take a peek into my life. read my stories of family and cute students. laugh with me. cry with me. be my friend.

um...we eat a lot
one of my favorite things to do is eat at my wita's (grandma's) house. i've grown up with mexican food-authentic mexican food. i get the real thing, not this fake stuff they try to pass off as mexican food at some restaurants. it's why i order chicken tenders when i go to mexican restaurants; nothing compares to my wita's cooking.
jealous much?
anyway, occasionally on sunday nights after church our whole family will go to my wita's house to have breakfast for dinner. you know: eggs, papas (potatoes-hers are the baist!), beans, bacon, and tortillas. last night was one of those nights. there's nothing like eating around the table, talking and laughing with your family. love it. as we were enjoying our meal, wita turned from the stove and began telling us how much food we went through:
1 1/2 dozen eggs
5 lbs. potatoes
3 pkg. bacon
(and that's because we were missing about 7 other people from the family.)
we were quiet for a second. someone said, "that's a lot of food."
then we all went back to eating.

i'm sick...again
trust me, you don't want the details.
but on the bright side, me being sick brings out the sweet side of my sister. she's at the store getting me crackers and gatorade. and this is the second time she's taken care of me while i'm sick.
wonders never cease, huh?

jobs
it occurred to me yesterday afternoon that i'm incredibly blessed when it comes to jobs. i have had four jobs in my lifetime. they have all been great, and they have one really cool thing in common: they all came to me; i never sought them out. when i filled out the applications, it was with the knowledge that i was already hired. pretty cool, huh?
- i didn't work through high school, but i started my first job a week after i graduated. the mom of one of my friends asked me to work at her montessori. i worked at that job for a year and a half until i realized that i needed to be concentrating on my schoolwork (being a music major means that you have no life...sort of like teaching).
- soon after i had changed my major from music to education, i went into the art & music office to get a book that someone had left for me. as jaxine handed me my book, she asked if i was looking for a job. turns out that her work study was about to student teach, and somebody had passed on my name. i was hired within the week. it was in that office that the "office princess" first came to be.
- in 2006, lennon asked me to work for him. it was a much harder decision than i let on, because it meant leaving a job that i loved and could do in my sleep for another one that would take much more out of me. this job was ministry. i knew what i was getting myself into, which was probably why i hesitated a little. but like the jobs before, God blessed me. that year is one that i will always cherish. i would have worked for lennon until i graduated; unfortunately, i had to quit working so i could student teach.
- when i had about three weeks of student teaching left, my current principal offered me the job i now have. i graduated on a saturday, and started my job the following monday.
a nice surprise
on my way home from work, i got a really nice surprise.
i had just cranked up the radio when my phone rang. it was one of my best friends, amanda. we have been friends since the third grade and since she got married last september i haven't talked to her much. um, since like september. yikes! she knew all the important stuff, like i graduated and got a job.
anyway, it was so great catching up. i'm so, so bad at keeping up with my friends (i really hope they still consider me their friend) but with amanda it's never mattered. we even talked about how months will go by without us talking, but when we do it's like time hasn't even passed.
but honestly, i do need to get better about keeping in touch with my friends.
so all this time that we haven't talked resulted in an hour and 17 minutes of talking. that's really not a long time considering that we used to spend every day together in school and still talked 2 hours on the phone after school. i've never been one to run out of things to say =)
i feel so blessed to have a friend like amanda. since we've known each other since the third grade, you could say that we're pretty close. she's set me straight when i needed it. called me on my incredibly stupid mistakes. encouraged me and reminded me of God's amazing forgiveness when those mistakes came back to bite me. even now, with miles separating us, our friendship is still strong. i love you, amanda!
